The Shorty Interview
with Science Grrl

What's your best tweet?
What are six things you could never do without?
The ScienceGrrl Gang, The West Wing, Twitter (sneaky!), Air, Food and Water.
How do you use Twitter in your professional life?
Keeping in touch with our networks, and spreading the ScienceGrrl love.
Twitter or Facebook?
What was the funniest trend you've seen?
Scientists sharing their #overlyhonestmethods. Love, love, love.
What feature should Twitter add?
Who do you wish had a Twitter feed but doesn't?
Ben Gilbert, a fab photographer who worked on our calendar. He deserves many #ff-s but without Twitter that's just encouraging stalking...
What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?
science, grrl, is, awesome
Is there someone you want to follow you who doesn't already? If so, who?
@ProfBrianCox - we've chatted, his wife (@giagia) is in our 2013 calendar, we'll be doing some amazing things together this year....we can only think he's forgotten to hit the button :)
Why should we vote for you?
We're not just a calendar! We've already come so far & reached so high & met some amazing people on the way. We'll never forget we started on Twitter. Vote! Social media CAN change the world - ScienceGrrl proves it!
What's the most interesting connection you've made through Twitter?
The ScienceGrrl Gang!
Hashtag you created that you wish everyone used?
How do you make your tweets unique?
What inspires you to tweet?
All the #womeninscience & supporters - and budding ScienceGrrls (male & female)
140 characters of advice for a new user?
Play nice, talk back, be curious, shout about things you love and find interesting. Keep up to date by following hashtags - and us :D
How long can you go without a tweet?
A day, tops. We're lying.
Who do you admire most for his or her use of Twitter?
@edyong209 does a cracking job, always worth a listen - and @athenedonald takes time to reflect on issues around women in science, blog, tweet AND say thankyou for all the RTs... amazing.
What is one of the biggest misconceptions of Twitter?
That it's all time-wasting and finding out what celebrities have for breakfast. They only tell you about dinner.
Why should people follow you?
We think we can make a difference, and the more diverse our networks the wider our reach. And we like puns.
How do you decide what to tweet?
News, chat, debate, celebrating #womeninscience, puns
How do you use social media to motivate yourself or others to live a healthier life?
Um, we hadn't - but we will schedule some 'eat your greens' tweets.
How has social media helped bring your family closer together and #keepgoodgoing?
It's how we realised we were related in the first place - kindred spirits of #womeninscience! Oh, and we retweet over the campfire.
Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
Twitter brought us to life! Conversations about THAT video turned into action - http://www.science...
What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?
Arrange Tweet-ups. Twitter is amazing, but the real work & real friendships happen in person.
What are some big Twitter faux pas?
Being rude/aggressive. Not cool people, not cool.
