The Shorty Interview
with HeadCountOrg

What's your best tweet?
ATTN like-minded patriots with govt-issued IDs: Register to vote here: http://bit.ly/rtvc... @HeadCountOrg. #925NVRD http://twitpic.com...
What are six things you could never do without?
Music, politics, democracy, social media, voting & active citizens!
How do you use Twitter in your professional life?
To inform & activate. Our biggest success was when we got over 200 different musicians, artists & actors to encourage fans to register!
What's your favorite Twitter app?
Hootsuite and Tweetdeck!
Twitter or Facebook?
Twitter for the news and Facebook for pictures.
What was the funniest trend you've seen?
Gifs ... they just keep getting better!
What feature should Twitter add?
A seamless process that allows people to communicate with their elected officials on the things that matter.
Who do you wish had a Twitter feed but doesn't?
Every elected official should have a Twitter account and should be constantly engaging with the people!
What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?
Democracy & thank you!
Is there someone you want to follow you who doesn't already? If so, who?
Elected Officials. We want them to see that the music community is one with a voice and one they should pay attention to!
Have you ever unfollowed someone? Who and why?
No we haven't ... we encourage people to have opinions and express them.
Why should we vote for you?
Voting for us is a vote for bringing democracy to the people and making sure that no matter what party you support, your voice is heard.
Terms you wish would start trending on Twitter right now?
What's the most interesting connection you've made through Twitter?
Registering an 18 year old to vote in their first election through Twitter. Doesn't get much better than that.
Hashtag you created that you wish everyone used?
#925nvrd: we used this hashtag for National Voter Registration Day and were able to register over 40,000 people online.
How do you make your tweets unique?
We pun for fun and we try to make the mundane interesting.
What inspires you to tweet?
The idea that this generation will be active, informed & empowered to make positive changes in America.
Ever get called out for tweeting too much?
Not to our faces...I mean a tweet only has a 30 minute lifespan, right?
140 characters of advice for a new user?
Never be afraid to make a statement. Opinions should always encourage conversation so make your voice heard (& shorten your links).
How long can you go without a tweet?
Depends on how much sleep we're getting ...
What question are we not asking here that we should?
If you win a Shorty Award, will you use it for good or evil? Explain.
How do you imagine Twitter changing?
Soon Twitter will make elected officials more accessible to the public and strengthen democracy in America.
Who do you admire most for his or her use of Twitter?
We admire the band Cake (@cakemusic) for always being a band that has something to say!
Who is the funniest person on Twitter that you follow?
Rob Delaney (@robdelaney) HANDS DOWN!
What is one of the biggest misconceptions of Twitter?
That you can't say it all in 140 characters.
Why should people follow you?
We'll keep you up to date on music, politics & everything in-between. We will also make sure you know the how & when of registering to vote.
Can you name some one-of-a-kind Twitter accounts that you follow?
Our partner organizations are pretty badass: @ReverbRocks, @MagicHat, @Patagonia & all the artists that we work with!
How do you decide what to tweet?
We break it down to the basics: non-partisan politics, cool music news, organizations doing great things & cute cat videos.
How do you use social media to motivate yourself or others to live a healthier life?
Keeping people informed on big issues that effect their life & the music that will make them happy!
How has social media helped bring your family closer together and #keepgoodgoing?
Social media has given a common place to a community of individuals who through music and activism have become family.
Why'd you start tweeting?
Tweeting is the best way to constantly stay engaged with the masses. It keeps people informed and empowers them.
Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
In 2012 we registered over 40,000 people through Twitter and Facebook - it helped us reach a place we never thought possible.
What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?
Encourage people to have a voice and speak out on the issues that matter - especially people of influence.
How will the world change in the next year?
The use of social media will drive forward social and political change and empower a generation.
What are some big Twitter faux pas?
Selfies, excessive hashtags and politicians getting their Twitter accounts "hacked".
What will the world be like 10 years from now?
The world will be filled with music lovers who are passionate about democracy and giving back to their community.
